Music is the expression of our hearts. How beautiful it is when we express our love
and devotion to our God out of gratitude for His deliverance and salvation.
This project was inspired from Psalm 137:
"By the rivers of Babylon..." As the captives of Israel pondered their loss in the country of Babylon
(the diaspora), there was this passion that stirred within their hearts...the longing for the presence of their God, known
only in His Land - Israel, and in the City of His presence, Jerusalem.
No longer would they even consider singing the joyous songs or play upon their devoted Temple instruments of worship
for the mocking crowds of Babylon who begged to hear "new" music. The lyrics of the beautiful Songs of Zion would not be found
upon their lips in this Godless land.Instead, those songs would burn only in their hearts until the Lord God of Israel would
bring them, once again, with a mighty outstretched arm back to the place of His glorious Presence and blessing, and re-establish
Jerusalem as the City of the Great King.
No joy would be known in their hearts, in this land. Only Jerusalem held that place of honor in their hearts. There
was severe vow amongst the community of worshipers of the Most High God: "I will remember Jerusalem, or else lose the ability
to skillfully use my right hand!" The hope of the "aliyah," God returning His people to Israel and "marrying"
them to the Land, was their burning passion. They believed He would fulfill His promise to them.
It still burns in the hearts of the Jewish people today. These are the ones who have yet had the delight of singing
the Songs of Zion in the Land of Zion.
May it be this year in Jerusalem that we sing the Songs of Zion with Your people, O Lord.
